"you just need to bring out your inner bitch"

Well, thanks to Patty, I was finally able to meet up with Sarah and Al Zimmerman (Al is a coworker of Patty's husband Jerry - follow?). Sarah is tall, blond and 6 months pregnant and a Texan! She is awesome. Had such a good day. While Patty and Jerry are out of the country, we got to enjoy the services of Patty's driver Samuel - very cool dude. We met Al for lunch downstairs from his office. We started talking about my apartment hunting adventures from the day before and he was trying to explain the negotation process a la the chinese way - in short Al says, "You need to bring out your inner bitch!" Sarah and I started laughing hysterically, but sounds like it is honest and true advice. I know you all know I can bring it out, but doing it in a foreign country is a little out of my element. So pray, say a mantra, wish me luck on the inner bitch thing... :) I head out tomorrow to see a couple more places..... Sarah also took me back to meet her friend Amy - also very nice. She lives at one of the apartments that I looked at on Tuesday, was nice, but wasn't overly impressed - well her apartment was great. Sarah said ot ask our real estate person to show us other options in the same complex and that if you don't like the furniture or you want them to put an oven in, you put it in the contract and it is done. I guess that is what they expect you to do - they jack up the price because they think since you are white you have money. We'll see how it works - Al says keep them hanging on the negotiations and make sure you negotiate on more than one place at a time - the more competition they know about, the more flexible they will be.

Hi Sweetie, I finally found your .com and read all the adventures you are having, can't wait to come and visit. Jen and Brad had their little girl on the 14th 10 days late, Addison Grace and she is beautiful. Hope to visit them in Geneva, they will be leaving soon.
Going to buy a car today, Honda Element 2005 green.
Hope your apartment hunting gets easier and you find what you want, I personnally like the maid thing and all the bedrooms. Come on when will you ever be able to have a maid????

Roger is having fun with the Magellen, even though we know where we are goin.

Take care of each other.
Love you Aunt Sandy

I just got caught up on your blog and absolutely love reading it :-) You and Will have definitely already had a few culture shock adventures, but what a cool experience! Now you see while they may not officially speak a different language here in Scotland, with the strong accent I swear it could be declared a separate language of it's own! Jeff and I can't wait to see you when we come visit so we can share in all the language fun - do check out that fakie market - can't wait to shop there with you :-) Oh and good luck with the apartment hunting! Just pretend they are a sleasy car salesman trying to swindle you and give them back all ya got and don't take no for an answer! I know you can do it! Keep the stories coming! Kim and Jeff

Wow, what an adventure! We're thoroughly jealous of the leap you've just made. Thanks for the email announcement, Will, and for the wonderful writing, Tracy. Your blog is a joy to read. Looking forward to hearing more. Let me know if the herbs you found in the market have any effect on BP, cholesterol, etc. Best of luck with the apartment-hunting and the culture shock ahead.

Technical question: is Skype your VOIP provider? If yes, let me know, and we can set-up a time to chat for free (we've got a camera attached... Will can finally see our Mr. Alex in action). :)

Tracy, you are the biggest inner bitch that I have ever known! None of the other comments said this, so I guess it was left up to me! :-) I'm not a good haggler either, but I feel confident that the bitch can rear her fiery-red hair and they will back down!
